Winter is Holding on Tight

Winter sure is holding on tight, isn’t it? Despite some moments of sunshine and the days inching towards being longer, we are still firmly in the middle of winter. During this period, it’s natural for your lawn to enter a dormant phase.

If you missed the opportunity to fertilise your lawn during autumn, it’s best to hold off for now. Since your lawn is in hibernation mode due to the cold, it can’t take full advantage of any fertiliser you might spread. However, using Colourguard Plus could be beneficial as it can add a green tint to your lawn and safeguard it from frosty weather.

Before turning on your sprinklers, make sure your lawn genuinely needs watering. Check how dry the soil is to determine this. If watering is necessary, aim to do it early in the morning to reduce the chance of fungal growth.

Should you still need to mow your lawn, consider raising the blades on your mower to avoid damaging the grass. Chopping off too much during winter could leave your lawn vulnerable to diseases. If you’re not mowing frequently, it’s the perfect time for some mower maintenance and blade sharpening in preparation for spring. And don’t forget to keep your lawn clear of fallen leaves and clippings to maximize sunlight exposure.
While your lawn is sleeping through the winter, the weeds aren’t. Stay vigilant and manage any weed growth. You can either remove weeds manually or use a selective herbicide.
